One hurt, one charged in Central Avenue hit and run collision

One person was injured and another was charged during a hit and run collision on Central Avenue Saturday afternoon.

That’s according to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, which says that a car legally parked on Central Avenue was operated by 20-year old Shadia Harper was struck by another car traveling eastbound on Central. Harper had reportedly been getting out of the vehicle at the time the door was struck, forcing it to close on her leg, causing serious physical injury. Then vehicle then fled the scene.

Witness at the scene told officers that saw the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and on the wrong side of the road when it struck Harper’s vehicle.

Later that day, contact was made with 42-year old Alprestonia Butler, who reported to officers he had been stolen from. When officers were taken to his vehicle, it allegedly had damage that was consistent with the hit and run collision on Central and matched the description of it. Butler also allegedly matched the description of the person who had been driving the vehicle at the time of the collision. Alcohol is listed on the report as a possible factor.

Butler was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with failure to render aid. Harper was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
