HPD: Man injured when car collides with utility pole

A Hopkinsville man was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center early Friday morning after his car collided with a utility pole on Walnut Street.

According to the Hopkinsville police collision report, the single-vehicle crashed occurred around 1:35 a.m. when a vehicle driven by 38-year old Donnie Vaughn of Hopkinsville hit a pole. Upon contact with Vaughn at the scene, he reportedly told officers he believed he had being turning north on Walnut from East 18th Street when he turned too wide.  He said he thought attempted to correct and over-corrected, going straight into the utility pole.

He also told officers that he had taken some medication earlier in the evening, which the report states could have been a factor in the crash, along with fatigue.

Vaughn was transported to Jennie Stuart for head injuries.  When questioned later at the hospital, he reportedly stated he could remember turning, but nothing after that.
