One dead following Logan Co. pursuit, standoff

A Rockfield man is dead and a woman was injured following a pursuit and a standoff where shots were fired at law enforcement that occurred Saturday in Auburn.

According to a news release from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, an Auburn police officer was at the Auburn Minit-Mart when they reportedly located 48-year old Tammy Bledsoe of Rockfield, who was wanted for questioning in relation an assault report.  As the officer attempted to make contact, Bledsoe got into a vehicle operated by 54-year old Cornwell Anthony Stamps of Rockfield, who was also sought in relation to a shooting that occurred earlier in the month.

A pursuit began that went towards Simpson County, with Stamps allegedly trying to ram officers off the road, before he was able to make it to his residence on Stamps Road.  Stamps then reportedly barricaded himself in the home for five hours, firing shots at officers, before allegedly setting fire to the inside of the home.

Stamps was taken into custody as he attempted to escape out of a back window.  He was taken to Logan Memorial Hospital for what were thought to be minor injuries, but he was eventually taken to the Medical Center in Bowling Green, where he would die.  The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Bledsoe was removed from the residence during the incident and taken to Bowling Green for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds she reportedly received from Stamps.
