A Hopkinsville man was arrested on a felony criminal mischief charge following an investigation by city police Monday night.
Officer Michael Felts went with 35-year old Brandon Joshua Smith of Hopkinsville to a North Main Street residence regarding him picking up belongings, including a car battery that was locked inside a vehicle.
The owner of the vehicle was not at home and Officer Felts gave Smith legal advice on how to get his battery back at a later time.
The owner of the car called police about an hour later, saying the window of her vehicle was broken and the battery was gone. Further investigation determined the door of the car was dented and there was additional damage inside.
Smith was found at his home, where he allegedly admitted the battery was already sold. He reportedly said he tried to get the battery back civilly, but that didn’t work and he wanted it back.
Police arrested Smith for felony criminal mischief.
