Todd Fiscal Court is joining forces with Logan County to lobby the Kentucky General Assembly to fund making US 79 a four-lane highway from Russellville to Clarksville.
Tom Harned with Logan Leads spoke to magistrates Friday morning, saying Logan Fiscal Court approved a resolution Wednesday urging the General Assembly to make the project a priority.
He says an extra 150 big trucks are expected to travel all or portions of US 79 between Russellville and the Tennessee state line once Novelis is fully operational and that’s in addition to employees commuting to work and back.
Todd Fiscal Court also agreed to pay $6,000 for former state senator Richie Sanders to work as a lobbyist on behalf of the commission.
County electrical inspector James Dossett gave his annual report, noting there are 16 houses and 26 mobile homes new to the county in 2019. He performed 19 inspections after repairs were made to structures following severe weather damage—mostly in June and October.
Dossett says he continues to stay busy at the Novelis plant, but there’s also been major projects elsewhere—including a new cheese plant and creamery opening on Watts Road near Trenton.
Sheriff Tracy White’s $667,200 budget was approved, including an extra $8,300 as the mandated contribution rate to the retirement system has gone up.
In other action, Fiscal Court is considering the purchase of a vehicle for the Todd County senior citizens program. No action was taken on that item Friday morning.
