Man arrested on rape, unlawful imprisonment charges

Hopkinsville police arrested a man Wednesday night for allegedly holding a woman against her will and raping her.

An arrest citation for 44-year old James Sanders of Hopkinsville says he and the female victim were in an argument at a Younglove Street home that turned physical when Sanders grabbed the woman and pushed her head into a wall several times, causing injuries.

The woman said she tried to use her cell phone to call police, but that Sanders broke her phone and didn’t allow her to leave for approximately a day.

During that time, he allegedly forced the woman to have sex on two separate occasions.

Sanders is charged with two counts of first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and intimidating a participant in the legal process.

Police say the victim bruises on both arms and scratches on her neck.
