The War Memorial Building will once again be filled with Christmas trees this weekend as the annual Hopkinsville Festival of Trees gets underway.

The festival officially opens Friday at 3 p.m. and organizer Sherry Newtonsays it continues through Saturday, with around 30 different trees to enjoy and the public can purchase raffle tickets to enter into a chance to win one.

She says the trees, which are donated and decorated by local businesses and agencies, are decorated with different themes and ideas in mind.

Newton says there will be more than trees this weekend, as there will be activities with kids happening and the chance to take pictures with Santa.

Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children 5 through 17 and children 4 years old and under are free.  Attendees can also bring two canned goods and receive a dollar off the cost of admission.  Raffle tickets for trees are a dollar a piece and all the money raised will benefit the Pennyroyal Center’s substance abuse programs.
