Woman indicted for murder in death of Elkton man

A woman has been indicted for murder in connection with the September death of 61-year old Ted Allan Thompson on West Shelby Avenue in Elkton.

As previously reported, Elkton police were called to Thompson’s home for a welfare check on September 17 and found him deceased. Kentucky State Police were called to assist in the investigation and a KSP spokesperson said a few days later that an autopsy determined Thompson may have died from natural causes.

There were some unusual circumstances noted, however, including that Thompson’s car was missing.

Trooper Rob Austin says further investigation since that time brought about new information that led to indictments against 31-year old Kristie Chancey of Clarksville. She was indicted in October by a Todd County Grand Jury for multiple counts of receiving stolen property, two counts of felony theft and for being a persistent felony offender.

That indictment warrant was served against Chancey on October 29 by the Todd County Sheriff’s Department.

A second indictment warrant was issued Monday and served by KSP against Chancey for one count of murder and for being a persistent felony offender.  The indictment alleges that between September 13 and 16, Chancey used a pillow to smother Thompson to death.

She appeared in Todd Circuit Court Wednesday morning for arraignment and entered a not guilty plea.

Chancey is lodged in the Todd County Jail on a $125,000 bond.

The Todd County Coroner’s Office has also assisted in the investigation.
