A Benton woman is facing charges related to her alleged involvement in stealing someone’s identity and using that identity to send messages over social media.
According to the Murray Police Department, the victim reported to police that she has been the target of several fake messages over the last two years that have been sent by text and by social media that others have claimed to be from her and that it has been occurring for approximately 2 years. A search warrant was conducted for the computer IP addresses where the messages were sent from the fake social media account that was made to look like it was the victim.
Investigating determined that 46-year old Tonya Clevidence of Benton was the person who created the fake account and also used a fake number to send text messages while pretending to be the victim.
Clevidence is charged with theft of identity and harassing communications.
