Trigg County Historical and Preservation Society and the Trigg County Schools Board of Education have established an educational partnership.
A news release says that through historical materials and hands-on projects, the partnership will help students learn more about Trigg County History to coincide with the Trigg County Bicentennial celebration.
An education committee has developed a series of projects based on Trigg County history for the current school year. Primary students can complete a fun activity workbook titled “We Love Our Ole’ Kentucky Home – Trigg County”. Middle and High School students can enter an essay contest where they will interview an older member of their family or a family friend to create a written or video essay about Trigg County Then and Now. The contest is being opened this week with a deadline for submissions of written or video essays on February 28.
Home school and private school students are also welcome to submit an entry. Awards will be presented to the first and second place winners in categories for grades 6-8 and grades 9-12. Organizers say contest rules and entry information can be picked up at the Trigg County Schools Central Office.
There will also be a job shadowing apprenticeship opportunity for Trigg County High School students to work and learn in the newly renovated Trigg County Museum. Students will be guided to catalog museum artifacts, assist in setting up and maintaining educational displays or help the public research their heritage electronically.
