College Basketball
Top-ranked Louisville plays host to fourth-ranked Michigan tonight in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. The 7-and-0 Cardinals look score their first win over a ranked opponent this season. Michigan is also 7-and-0 and has already knocked off North Carolina and Gonzaga this season.
In other college hoops action tonight, Vanderbilt hosts Buffalo, Western Kentucky plays at Wright State, Murray State goes to Missouri State, Austin Peay plays at Arkansas and Jacksonville State is at George Mason.
Women’s action has Murray State on the road at Evansville.
Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week Monday. The Bowling Green junior had 25 points, eight rebounds, a career-high four blocks, two steals and an assist as Austin Peay topped South Carolina State 92-66 in its lone game last week. It’s the second week he has received the OVC weekly honor.
Meanwhile, Governor freshman Carlos Paez received the OVC Freshman of the Week honor. The native of Venezuela scored a combined 13 points in his first five games in an Austin Peay uniform. Paez then exploded for 17 points in 16 minutes of action in a 92-66 win over South Carolina State last week. It’s the third straight week an Austin Peay rookie has received the weekly honor.
College Football
The College Football Playoff selection show will air on Sunday evening on ESPN. Bowl announcements will be made during the show. Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisville and Western Kentucky await their bowl destinations.
In other college football news, University of Tennessee receiver Jerrod Means and offensive lineman Ryan Johnson are entering the transfer portal.
NFL
The Tennessee Titans look to extend their winning streak as they visit the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Tennessee has won its past three games and is second in the AFC South at 7-and-5. Houston is first in the division at 8-and-4. The Titans are currently tied with Pittsburgh for the AFC’s final Wild Card, but the Steelers own the tiebreaker.
NHL
The Nashville Predators open a three-game home stand tonight starting with a matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Nashville is tied for fifth in the Central Division with 28 points. First puck drops at 7 in Bridgestone Arena.
NBA
The Indiana Pacers downed the Memphis Grizzlies 117-104 at Fed Ex Forum. Rookie Ja Morant did not play for the second straight game due to back spasms. The Grizzlies play at the Chicago Bulls tomorrow night.
MLB
Multiple outlets report power-hitting infielder Mike Moustakas has agreed to a four-year 64-million dollar contract with the Reds. Moustakas hit .254 last season with 35 home runs and 87 RBIs with Milwaukee and was a National League All-Star selection. The left-handed hitter played his first six seasons with the Kansas City Royals as a third baseman, but is projected to play second for Cincinnati.
Also, the Reds non-tendered second baseman Jose Peraza after he hit .239 with six homers and 33 RBI in 141 games last season.
The St. Louis Cardinals are planning on keeping pitcher John Gant after tendering a contract to the right-hander for 2020. The 27-year-old is in his first year of arbitration and is the Cards’ only arbitration-eligible player after they designated Dominic Leone for assignment last month. Gant spent last season in the bullpen, posting a 3.66 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 66-and-a-third innings.
