HS Football
Area teams are in action this evening in the semifinal round of the Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.
Class 4-A: Madisonville will make a 310 mile journey to play against Johnson Central. The winner will play the victor of the Boyle County-Central game next weekend at Kroger Field in Lexington.
Class 5-A: Bowling Green travels to Covington Catholic with the winner to play the Owensboro at Frederick Douglass winner in the state championship game.
Class 2-A: Mayfield entertains Beechwood with the winner to meet the Somerset-Breathitt County winner next week.
Class A: Kentucky Country Day hosts Paintsville and Louisville Holy Cross visits Pikeville.
Class 3-A: Taylor County goes to Bell County and Belfry goes to DeSales.
Class 6-A: Tates Creek travels to Male and North Hardin hosts Trinity.

College Basketball
Ninth ranked Kentucky is back in action this evening hosting the Blazers of UAB. The Wildcats will be without Nate Sestina, who broke his left wrist in practice earlier this week. Tipoff is at 6 pm, with pregame coverage at 4:30 on Lite Rock 98.7 and lite987whop.com.

Second ranked Louisville faces Western Kentucky in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena this afternoon. Pregame coverage for the 4 pm tipoff begins at 3:30 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

17th ranked Tennessee meets Florida State in the Emerald Coast Classic today with Jacksonville State taking on Chicago State in that event.

Women’s play today has Western Kentucky facing Tulsa in the Saint Mary’s Thanksgiving Classic.

Thursday’s women’s games saw 8th ranked Louisville down UT Arlington 87-76 at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. The Cardinals face Oklahoma State today.
Rutgers edged Vanderbilt 62-56 at the Junakroo Jam in the Bahamas and faces Seton Hall this evening.

College Football
11 Kentucky seniors take to Kroger Field for the final time tomorrow as the Wildcats meet Louisville in the 32nd edition of the Governors Cup game. Kentucky leads the series 16-15 and has won two of the last three meetings. Pregame coverage begins at 9 am tomorrow morning on Lite Rock 98.7 and lite987whop.com.

Vanderbilt looks for its second consecutive win over intra state rival Tennessee as the teams square off tomorrow afternoon in Knoxville. The Senior Day meeting will be the 113th all -time meeting with Tennessee leading 75-32 with five ties.

The game known as “100 miles of hate” takes place in Bowling Green as Western Kentucky welcomes Middle Tennessee. It’s the 69th meeting between the teams who began this rivalry as members of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Blue Raiders leads 35-32 with one tie. Austin Peay hosts Furman in the opening round of the FCS playoffs tomorrow afternoon at Fortera Stadium. Not only is it the first playoff game in Austin Peay’s history, it’s also the first ever meeting between the schools. Kickoff is at noon.

A costly penalty hurt Ole Miss late in a 21-20 loss to rival Mississippi State at the Egg Bowl in Starkville last night. Elijah Moore caught a touchdown with four seconds left to bring the Rebels within one, but drew an excessive celebration penalty after simulating a dog urinating in the end zone. Luke Logan missed the PAT to send Ole Miss to a loss.

NFL
The Dallas Cowboys took a 26-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Arlington. Dak Prescott threw two touchdowns and committed two turnovers in the loss.

The New Orleans Saints clinched the NFC South by beating the Atlanta Falcons 26-18. Taysom Hill scored two touchdowns and blocked a punt for New Orleans.

The Chicago Bears kept their playoff hopes alive by edging the Detroit Lions 24-20. Mitchell Trubisky tossed three TD’s.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will not fire head coach Jason Garrett before the end of the season. Jones told the media after Thursday’s loss to Buffalo that now isn’t the time for a coaching change. Garrett’s contract is over after this season. The 6-and-6 Cowboys are clinging to first place in the NFC East and have lost six-of-nine.

The Tennessee Titans travel to Lucas Oil Stadium for a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. Both teams are 6-5 with the Titans winning four of their last five with Ryan Tannehill at quarterbacks. However, the Colts won the earlier meeting this season in Nashville 19-17. Both teams are a game behind leader Houston in the AFC South.

NHL
The Nashville Predators begin a two game, two night road trip this evening at the Carolina Hurricanes. The Predators are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights Wednesday night. Nashville will play at the Florida Panthers tomorrow.
