HS Football
Several members of Hopkinsville’s team were selected All West Kentucky Conference. Wide receiver Reese Jesse and defensive lineman Denarius “Red” Barnes were named to the First Team. Tigers receiving Honorable Mention recognition include Jay Bland, Lane Rushing, Keane Mumford, Tyrell Gray Lewis, Conner Lackey, Hayden Lackey, Jevon Leavell and Daisjaun Mercer.
College Football
The Ohio Valley Conference announced its All OVC Offense and Defense teams along with the Newcomer Team today. Austin Peay was represented on the All OVC First Team Offense by quarterback JaVaughn Craig, running back Kentel Williams and offensive linemen Blake Mitchell and Kyle Anderton. The Governors Josephus Smith, Kordell Jackson and Juantarius Bryant made the All OVC First Team Defense.
Meanwhile, Governors wide receiver DeAngelo Wilson made the All OVC Second Team Offense while Shaun Whittinghill made the All OVC Second Team Defense.
Governors on the All Newcomer Team were offensive guard Bucky Williams and defensive lineman John Wesley Whiteside.
Murray State was represented by linebacker Anthony Koclanakis on the All OVC First Team Defense. Defensive back TJ Warren was named All OVC Second Team Defense with punter Steve Dawson named All OVC Second Team specialist.
Austin Peay head coach Mark Hudspeth was named the Roy Kidd-OVC Coach of the Year after leading the Governors to a 9-3 record this season and their first OVC title since 1977.
College Basketball
The University of Louisville announced today a banner recognizing the three Most Outstanding Players of their NCAA basketball championships will be unveiled in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge game against Michigan next week. Darrell Griffith(1980), Pervis Ellison(1986) and Luke Hancock(2013) will be honored at halftime December 3rd. Hancock’s honor was recently reinstated by the NCAA, who first took away all of Louisville’s 2013 banners.
