Murray State to have new football coach for 2020 season

Murray State is beginning the search for a new football coach after announcing the reassignment of Mitch Stewart within the athletic department following Saturday’s loss to Southeast Missouri.

WHOP Sports spoke with Murray State athletic officials Sunday seeking an explanation about the matter and was told to refer to the statement issued Saturday by athletics director Kevin Saal. The statement indicated the school would begin an immediate national search and had no timeline on hiring a new coach. The statement also said it would be the only comment the school had on the matter.

Meanwhile, Stewart took to social media Sunday to thank his players since he didn’t have the opportunity to speak with them following Saturday’s game. Stewart said in his statement that a solid foundation had been laid by the players to continue to build on.
