The Christian County Health Department wrapped up the 100 mile challenge Saturday with the finale event, and celebrated 46,900 miles walked by participants this year.
Amanda Sweeney with the department says participation was up this year in the event that’s all about getting people up and active, and several agencies even had internal competitions to encourage more miles walked.
She says the individual with the most miles walked was Sheryl Boyd, and the agency with the most miles was the Pennyrile Area Development District Office.
With 46,900 miles under their belt, the participants could have walked around the world twice, according to Sweeney. Sweeney says they intend to keep hosting the 100 Mile Challenge, which has started to become a tradition for the last several years. Attendees of the finale events won door prizes, played games and got to show off their mileage, which was posted like a scoreboard on a wall of the Thomas Street Rec Center.
