The Warm the Children campaign is underway in Hopkinsville and the Kiwanis Club is asking for the community’s help in providing for families in need this season.
Speaking with club Thursday, coordinator Nikki Chambers says the program began in the city in 1995 with Willie Renshaw and since then, they have provided warm, winter clothes to over 4,000 children.
She says the goal this year is $20,000 to hopefully buy clothing at partner JC Penney for even more kids.
Chambers says there are several sponsorship opportunities available for those interested in donating.
The families who receive the aid are selected by the Salvation Army and they are taken to JC Penny to buy winter clothing. Each child gets around $80 to spend, which only goes towards clothing needs in totality.
