Golf: Koepka will not play in President’s Cup/Whan signs contract to continue as head of LPGA

American Brooks Kopeka announced today he has withdrawn from playing in the President’s Cup next month in Australia. The top ranked player in the world will not play due to a knee injury and will be replaced on the American team by Rickie Fowler, according to captain Tiger Woods.

LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan has signed a new long-term contract extension to remain on the job. Whan has been the head of the LPGA since 2010 when it had just 23 tournaments and total prize money of $40 million. This past season had 32 tournaments and concludes with the CME Globe Tour Championship with a $5 million purse. The event begins tomorrow.
