A Hopkinsville tradition is back with some new additions this year as the Turkey Trot returns Thanksgiving morning to downtown.
The Parks and Recreation Department is offering participants the option to earn a race shirt and a finisher’s medal for $25. The add-on is optional, with proceeds going to the Hopkinsville Greenway System. Coordinator Toby Hudson says the race has grown tremendously, and racers are encouraged to wear costumes.
He says to get downtown early that morning—the race starts right at 8 a.m.—to get your t-shirts and medals if you purchased them.
The Hopkinsville Turkey Trot 5k is a family-oriented event open to walkers, runners, joggers, skaters and bikers of all ages and paces. Dogs on leashes are welcome to participate with their owners in the 3.1-mile race. The Turkey Trot is also joining forces with the Christmas 5k light run in Clarksville and ugly sweater run in Fort Campbell in the inaugural Tri-Cities holiday series, encouraging people from around the region to stay fit and travel to neighboring communities.
