Fort Campbell and 101st Airborne Division Commander, Maj. Gen. Brian Winski was the keynote speaker at Wednesday morning’s Chamber of Commerce Eagle Ambassador Breakfast.
He encouraged anyone in the large crowd at the Bruce Convention Center who feels compelled to advocate on behalf of Fort Campbell to their federal lawmakers to remind them of the need for about $50 million in 2020 to construct a new middle school on post.
Funding had been in place for this year, but it was re-appropriated through an executive order by President Trump for construction of his border wall.
Maj. Gen. Winski says Fort Campbell also needs about $52 million for renovation of barracks for the 1st Brigade Combat Team that are over 40 years old.
He also outlined the various units at Fort Campbell and discussed the future of the 101st.
The Military Affairs Committee Service Award was presented to Rogers Group, the Outstanding MAC Member Award was presented to David Jones and Nicole Whitt took home the Eager Eagle Award.
The 101st Airborne Division Brass Quintet performed the national anthem and played several other patriotic selections during breakfast.
Several local World War II veterans were in attendance and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
