Princeton mayor warns of text scam attempts

Princeton Mayor Kota Young is warning residents there of a scam where the perpetrator is texting residents claiming to be the mayor.

Mayor Young says in a statement distributed by the Princeton Police Department that community members have been receiving a text from a person claiming to be him and asking the recipient to do an errand for him.

The mayor says it is a scam and anyone receiving a text from any number other than 270-625-4827 claiming to be the mayor should contact Princeton police.

Mayor Young also emphasizes that he would never ask anyone to purchase gift cards or to spend money on his behalf.
