Employers reaching out after Ebonite closure

Several area employers are announcing career opportunities in light of Friday’s shutdown of Ebonite in Hopkinsville.

South West Kentucky Economic Development Council Executive Director Mark Lindsey says he was notified by Huhtamaki that they will be hosting a job fair at their facility on Commerce Court from 9 until 3 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, officials at Hopkinsville Community College Workforce Solutions say Comefri USA on Bill Bryan Boulevard will accept applications at their facility from employees who lost their jobs Friday at Ebonite.

Announcements of additional opportunities are expected in the coming days.

As previously reported, all 171 Ebonite employees abruptly lost their jobs Friday. Ebonite was acquired by Brunswick, which is moving production of all products to its facility in Mexico.

Ebonite employees are receiving severance pay and benefits through January 13 according to a letter received Friday by Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble.
