Cheatham County deputy killed in Montgomery County crash

Additional details have been released on the accident Friday afternoon in Montgomery County that killed a Cheatham County sheriff’s deputy.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating and determined 50-year old Deputy Stephen Reece was eastbound on Oak Plains Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with US 41A.

His cruiser collided with a southbound van operated by 38-year old Jose Vilchiz of Madison, Tennessee, with both vehicles coming to rest on the southeast side of the intersection.

Deputy Reece was pronounced dead at the scene. He was an 18-year law enforcement veteran who spent most of his career with Metro Nashville Police.

The preliminary report says Deputy Reece was not wearing his seat belt, but that it likely would not have made a difference in this accident.

Vilchiz was transported by ambulance to the Tennova Sango emergency room for treatment of injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, according to police.
