Recanvass in Governor’s race shows no changes, Bevin concedes

The Thursday recanvass for the Kentucky Governor’s race showed no changes to the vote totals, including in Christian, Todd or Trigg Counties, and Governor Matt Bevin has conceded.

Boards of Election across the state convened to perform the recanvass, and in Christian County they reviewed the tapes and also read the totals for each district aloud, showing they accurately reported to the Secretary of State.  Christian County Clerk Mike Kem says the point is to make sure their totals match up to what was reported and see if there are any changes as result.

Bevin conceded the race to Governor-Elect Beshear during a press conference, saying he wishes Beshear luck and that he sincerely prays for Kentucky’s success in the future

He says it was good to have the recanvass and let the system work the way its supposed to.

Both Trigg and Todd County Clerk’s offices also reported no changes in those counties as a result of the recanvass. All 120 Kentucky counties reported no changes, except for one vote for a write-in candidate.

Recanvasses rarely yield any significant change in totals. James Comer requested one in 2015 after losing in the Republican gubernatorial primary to Bevin by only 83 votes.

Bevin has not yet said what his plans are for after the recanvass.
