It has become traditional in Hopkinsville, and other communities, for the Saturday after Thanksgiving to be declared Shop Small Saturday, and a proclamation was read Friday morning making it so.
Mayor Carter Hendricks made the proclamation at Casey Jones Distillery, which was the business that won ‘Favorite Small Business’ during last year’s event. He declared November 30 Shop Small Saturday and encouraged citizens to get out and support local business that help shape the community in numerous ways.
He says the event helps those businesses greatly, which in turn helps those who live here.
Once again the city will don the moniker of “Shopkinsville” and the celebration will begin at 10 a.m. that day, when representatives from the Downtown Renaissance District, the Downtown Farmers Market and the Christian County Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to distribute “Shop Small” canvas tote bags stuffed with specials and coupons from local small businesses.
There will be a Christmas Cookie decorating station, face painting and other festivities before things wrap up around 2 p.m.
