Five players scored in double figures as fifth-ranked Louisville got by Miami 87-74 in the season opener in Miami. Jordan Nwora led the Cardinals with 23 points and 12 boards while Ryan McMahon and Dwayne Sutton each posted 16. Louisville’s home opener is Sunday against Youngstown State.

Lamonte Turner had a game high 17 points as Tennessee downed UNC Asheville 78-63 in Knoxville. The Vols are back in action next Tuesday night as they host Murray State.

Western Kentucky opened the season with a 76-63 win over Tennessee Tech. Charles Bassey and Carson Williams each had 16 points to lead the Hilltoppers who face Austin Peay Saturday afternoon, with pregame at 2:30 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Austin Peay routed Oakland City 110-67 behind 21 points from Bowling Green native Terry Taylor and 20 points off the bench from freshman Jordyn Adams. The Governors had six players in double figure scoring last night.

Former Christian County standout Detorrion Ware had 13 points in Jacksonville State’s 74-65 loss to SMU. The Gamecocks host Brescia University next Tuesday.

Women’s action: 13th ranked Kentucky downed Mt. St. Mary’s 67-44. Other SEC games saw Tennessee edge East Tennessee State 72-68 and Vanderbilt routed Jacksonville State 88-66.

Elsewhere: 9th ranked Louisville drubbed Western Kentucky 75-56 and Austin Peay crushed Kentucky Wesleyan 103-70.

Tonight’s Game: Vanderbilt begins the Jerry Stackhouse era as the Commodores welcome Southeast Missouri of the Ohio Valley Conference.
