HPD cracking down on seat belt violators, distracted drivers, speeders

The Hopkinsville police department is cracking down on distracted drivers and other violations ahead of the holiday season and dozens of motorists were cited in the city Tuesday.

Approximately 45 individuals were cited for not wearing a seat belt Tuesday afternoon and evening at West Seventh Street and North Drive. Two were also charged with using their cell phone while driving, one was arrested for DUI and several were cited for not having insurance and registration.

HPD also cited about eight drivers for speeding in the areas of Fort Campbell Boulevard, Skyline Drive and East 21st Street.

A news release says officers will be paying attention to drivers who aren’t keeping their eyes on the road this month and pulling them over.

Motorists can expect saturation patrols and nighttime enforcement events.
