Utility player Derek Dietrich was among four Cincinnati Reds players outrighted to Triple-A Louisville after clearing waivers Monday. Dietrich hit .187 with 19 home runs and 43 RBIs in 113 games, starting 67 contests. The Reds have 35 players following the cuts on their 40 man roster.
The St. Louis Cardinals are working towards retaining Marcell Ozuna. St. Louis has extended a one-year qualifying offer to the free-agent outfielder worth 17.8-million-dollars. Ozuna has ten days to decide whether to accept it. Over two season with the Redbirds, Ozuna has hit .262 with 52 homers and 177 RBIs in 278 games.
The Chicago Cubs are making a number of offseason moves. The club picked up first baseman Anthony Rizzo’s team option for 2020 worth 16.5-million-dollars. Chicago declined to offer starter Cole Hamels a one-year, 17.8-million-dollar qualifying offer.
The Atlanta Braves are bringing back outfielder Nick Markakis and catcher Tyler Flowers. Both have agreed to one-year deals worth four-million-dollars. However, the Braves declined the 2020 contract option on pitcher Julio Teheran.
