The Pennyrile Area Development District has received the 2019 National Association of Development Organizations Impact Award for their efforts involving the Fort Campbell Strong initiative.
According to a news release, the Fort Campbell Strong initiative is a collaborative effort that began in 2015 to define a path for economic diversification and growth in the six-county region surrounding the base. The purpose of the planning effort was to not only address short term fiscal, economic and social impacts of the reduction of troops, but to develop a long term road to recovery and diversification of the economic base of the region.
Each of the six counties involved in the projects, as well as the educational institutions identified, have committed money, time, and other resources in support. The Impact Award recognizes regional development organizations and their partners for improving local communities.
