Large crowd turns out in memory of Officer Phillip Meacham

Cold temperatures didn’t keep a crowd of supporters from attending the second annual Officer Phillip Meacham Memorial 5K Saturday morning as they turned out to remember him.

Family, friends, community members and others lined up in front of the Christian County Justice Center to run or walk in memory of Officer Meacham, not just as a law enforcement officer but who he was as a father, husband and friend.  Organizer Ross Woodward says he was happy with the turnout and that so many want to keep Meacham’s memory alive.

Woodward says they’ll host this event or something similar for as long as they can.

The proceeds raised by the event will go to benefit two charities that benefit first responders and the family of fallen heroes.

Woodward says Meacham’s family participated in the event and have been involved in the planning of it since its inception.

Hopkinsville Police Officer Meacham was killed in the line of duty on Paulette Court in Hopkinsville on March 29, 2018.  That was a dark night in the community, but Saturday morning was bright with friendship and remembrance as the participants made their way across the city.
