Cold doesn’t stop good turnout for downtown trick-or-treating

There were flakes of snow in the air Halloween afternoon, but that didn’t stop hundreds of eager trick-or-treaters from descending on downtown Hopkinsville to get some candy.

Downtown merchants lined Main Street to hand out candy and speak with kids decked out in costume while bundled up against the cold.  Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says the cold didn’t turn away the crowds.

He says they host this event not only for the fun of Halloween, but also to provide away for people to go trick-or-treating and know it’s safe.

Brockman says the threat of severe weather earlier in the week made them consider rescheduling, but when the forecast said it would be cold but dry, they decided to keep it on Halloween.

It was very different from the warm temperatures of last year’s trick-or-treat, but the spirit of Halloween and those who love it couldn’t be stopped.  The Christian County Sheriff’s Department also hosted a safe trick-or-treat event at their new headquarters downtown.
