A few days after Trenton sustained heavy damage and power outages during Saturday’s severe weather, representatives of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet were in the town to announce unrelated discretionary funds for resurfacing of three streets.
Gray Tomlin is the commissioner of rural municipal aid for the cabinet and told a good crowd at city hall that the state recently began allowing towns to apply for the discretionary funds that have been traditionally reserved for county governments.
He announced $125,210 for resurfacing projects on Rosenwald Street, Ted’s Trail and Trice Street.
Mayor Martha Jo Ray noted it’s been a tough week for Trenton, but says the community spirit shown by citizens and the announcement from the cabinet have lifted her spirits.
Trenton’s power is back on and downtown businesses are open. Motorists can enter town from any direction, but should be alert for crews cleaning up debris and making repairs on power poles in several places.
