Two arrested for fatal shooting on APSU campus

One adult and one juvenile have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday night on the campus of Austin Peay State University.

Clarksville police say 22-year old Serdarin Brown was involved in a drug transaction to sell a small amount of marijuana to someone at about 10:10 p.m. Sunday in the area of 16 Hand Village Avenue.

As two people approached his vehicle, a 17-year old juvenile from Memphis went to Brown’s driver’s side door and brandished a handgun while demanding property. The other suspect, Joshua Watkins of Memphis, opened the passenger side door and began rummaging through the vehicle.

At some point during the incident Brown was shot and was later pronounced deceased at Tennova Health Hospital.

Watkins and the juvenile were both arrested and charged with criminal homicide.

Police say Brown was not affiliated with Austin Peay and the two suspects were in Clarksville visiting friends.
