Crofton native Freddie Overton passed away Sunday at the age of 80. He played collegiately for Austin Peay and began his coaching career there in 1963 . He moved to Pepperdine University in 1969 and recruited Hopkinsville native Bird Averitt to the California school. He returned to Murray State in 1971 as an assistant to Cal Luther and became head coach in 1974. He was 44-59 during his four seasons as Racer head coach.
