October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the Christian County Health Department offers breast cancer screenings all year and encourages the public to get tested.
Amanda Sweeney with the health department appeared on WHOP recently and urges both women and men to get their screenings, because while it’s less common in men it is still possible and anyone can be affected.
She says catching breast cancer early can lead to a full recovery, and says the health department offers screenings, along with a program to help those who don’t have insurance or can’t afford regular doctor visits.
There are multiple fundraisers taking place in the community to help battle cancer, and specifically breast cancer, including the Hopkinsville Fire Department t-shirts sales and the Real Men Wear Pink campaign. For more information about available health screenings, call the health department at (270) 887-4160.
