State announces $670k for more improvements at Pennyrile Forest State Park

State officials were at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park in Christian County Tuesday afternoon to announce $670,000 in funding for additional upgrades at the park.

It’s part of the “Restoring the Finest” initative and Secretary of Tourism Don Parkinson says the funds will address water and sewer upgrades, allowing the eight cabins to stay open through the winter.

About $1.3 million has now been designated for improvements to Pennyrile Forest since 2016 and Secretary Parkinson says they are looking at ways to address parking needs at the park.

Wireless internet access has improved greatly at the park, but there’s still no cell phone service and Secretary Parkinson says the state has been in contact with two providers to find a solution.

State Senator Whitney Westerfield, Representative Jim Gooch, Dawson Springs Mayor Chris Smiley and Christian County Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Brooke Jung were among those on hand for the announcement.
