Alcohol is suspected as a factor after a vehicle struck a building on the campus of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church Wednesday night and the driver was flown to a Nashville hospital.
It happened just before 11 p.m. and the Hopkinsville police collision report says 28-year old Pascual Martin of Hopkinsville had been westbound at approximately 50 mph when he left the roadway, crashed through the metal guard rail on the sidewalk and then struck the brick wall of a building.
Martin had a cut on his forehead and was unable to move his injured right arm. He was taken to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center helipad and then flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.
Police say there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from Martin’s vehicle and several empty beer containers were found inside.
The brick wall of the building was damaged, two windows were damaged and the wall was cracked inside, according to the report.
