Anyone willing to volunteer for the Grace and Mercy organization is invited to a training event later this month.
Carolyn Self says volunteer training for Grace and Mercy will be conducted on Tuesday, October 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 1507 South Main Street. She says in an email that both women and men are needed and a light supper will be served.
Grace and Mercy is a faith-based residential ministry for women battling drug and alcohol addiction. It provides studies in scripture, psychoeducational training and preparation for daily living. Most of the residents have come from incarceration with court oversight.
The residents normally spend one-to-two years in the facility before transitioning back into the community.
Volunteers are needed at the facility on South Main Street as receptionists, to cook and teach cooking, to transport women to appointments and jobs and to assist with special events. Other volunteers help with fudge deliveries and assist at the Nearly New Stores in Hopkinsville and Elkton. Men are needed to help deliver furniture sales. At this time, volunteers can assist in renovation of the red house on 15th Street for transition apartments as women graduate from the program.
Anyone wanting to register for the training or anyone with questions should contact Carolyn Self at 270-887-3522 or by email at bcself@hesenergy.net.
