Trigg County Ham Festival brings in thousands Saturday

A rainy, cold start on Friday may have kept some people away, but beautiful weather Saturday brought thousands of people to Cadiz for the 43rd annual Country Ham Festival.

People filled the streets in the search of good food, of which there was plenty to choose from, and to hear the live music—and there was tunes flowing from the stage all day. Cadiz Mayor Todd King says they were very pleased with the tremendous turnout and while the main festival wrapped up Saturday night with a fireworks show, the carnival rides will still be open Sunday.

He says the festival is all about celebrating the community and the heritage of agriculture Cadiz has and that he would never consider not having the festival, which has become a true staple of the city.

There was a country ham auction at the event, a best ham biscuit competition, along with a ton of other foods, the world’s largest biscuit, vendors selling wares, street entertainment and pig races. All the festivities officially wrap up at 5 p.m. Sunday, bringing this festival to a close—but planning is sure to begin soon for the 44th one.
