Details released on crash involving SUV, horse and buggy

Additional details have been released on an accident from Tuesday morning involving a vehicle and a horse and buggy on Pembroke Road.

The collision report from Christian County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Goulet says 28-year old Matthew Newton of Cerulean was southbound on Pembroke Road when he said he may have fallen asleep at the wheel. When he woke up, the buggy was immediately in front of him and he didn’t have time to avoid a collision.

The buggy was occupied by 37-year old John King of Dawson Springs and 41-year old Elam Beyler, 69-year old Simeon King and 49-year old Joseph Fisher of Cerulean.

John King was taken by ambulance to Skyline Medical Center with severe leg injuries.

Beyler and Simeon King were taken by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Fisher, who was operating the buggy, was not injured.

The horse was killed in the incident.

Members of the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department and Christian County Rescue Squad also responded.
