With the arrival of cooler temperatures into the area, flu season is now also underway and the Christian County Health Department is urging people to take preventative measures.
Amanda Sweeney with the health department says the flu comes with several symptoms, including fever, fatigue and weakness, a persistent cough, a sore throat and sometimes nausea. The department has flu vaccines available and Sweeney says the cost this year is $30 for the vaccine and $50 for higher doses, and they do accept insurance.
She says they also encourage people to frequently wash their hands, which help ward off the flu and other illnesses.
It is especially important for pregnant women to be vaccinated before or during pregnancy. It’s also highly recommended for children and adults over the age of 50 to receive a flu shot. The current flu activity level in the state is described as ‘sporadic’ in the most recent update from the Kentucky Cabinet of Health and Family Services.
