This is Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Week

This is Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Week in western Kentucky and local residents should be well-aware that October and November have been some of the most turbulent months on the calendar over the last couple decades.

The strongest tornado in the country caused significant damage in Hopkins County in November of 2005 and Rick Shanklin from the National Weather Service in Paducah notes a nighttime tornado crossed from Henderson into Evansville that same month and killed over 20 people just across the river.

Shanklin says this week is a good time for families to go over their plans for what to do when a tornado warning is issued and to be sure they have a reliable way to receive those warnings—especially at night.

The National Weather Service in Paducah is posting severe weather safety tips and other important information on its Facebook and Twitter pages this week.
