MLB: Reds, Cards win, Braves lose in Sunday’s regular season finales

Three solo home runs were all the Cincinnati Reds needed to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 Sunday. The Reds completed their 150th season with a 75-87 record.

Elsewhere in the National League: The St. Louis Cardinals are the National League Central Champs for the first time since 2015. St. Louis clinched the division after routing the Chicago Cubs 9-0 in the regular season finale Sunday at Busch Stadium.

The Atlanta Braves lost to the New York Mets 7-6 in 11 innings Sunday in the regular season finale at Sun Trust Park. The Braves will host the St. Louis Cardinals in game one of their NL Division Series Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Washington Nationals will meet the Milwaukee Brewers tomorrow with the winner to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in game one of their NL Division Series Thursday at Dodger Stadium.

The Chicago Cubs announced Sunday they will not retain manager Joe Maddon. Maddon, who led the team to their first World Series championship in 108 years, spent five years in Chicago, running up a record of 473-and-338. The Cubs missed the playoffs this year for the first time in the 65-year-old Maddon’s tenure.
