Forty-seven teams comprised of about 320 individuals ventured out in temperatures in the mid-90’s Sunday afternoon to participate in the 2019 Pennyrile Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
The Rev. Perry Greenwade led the opening prayer and recalled the loss of his own mother to the devastating disease that is currently affecting 5 million people and their caretakers across the United States.
Alan Toliver, who co-chaired this year’s walk, also lost his mother to Alzheimer’s and says the annual event is about raising money to support those battling the disease and to one day find a cure.
A little over $44,000 has been raised toward this year’s $85,000 goal and Toliver emphasized the fundraising effort will continue through the end of the year.
The Memory Keepers are the top fundraising team at just over $10,000 and Rachel Barner is the top fundraising individual at just under $2,100.
