Hoptown Half-Marathon and 5K draws over 600 racers

The day may have heated up well into the 80’s by the time racers started crossing the finish line, but that didn’t stop over 600 people from participating in the inaugural Hoptown Half-Marathon and 5K Saturday.

Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says the day went off as smoothly as he could have hoped with 632 racers, and says they’ve heard tons of positive feedback from participants.

Stella Christoforou of Fort Campbell was the overall winner of the 5K, with a time of 18 minutes and 52 seconds, and says that it was awesome to see so many people running and cheering, and she had a ton of fun.

In the women’s division, Lori Brown of Clarksville took second in the 5K with a time of 23 minutes and a second, while Lisa Kelley of Clarksville took third with 25 minutes and 29 seconds.  In the male division for the 5K, Scott Freeman of Clarksville was the overall first place winner with a time of 19 minutes and 36 seconds—Marc Quesenberry took second with 22 minutes and 11 seconds and then in third was Mitchell Cotthoff of Lexington at 22:40.

For the half-marathon—which is 13.1 miles— the overall first place winner in the men’s division was Brad Averitt of Clarksville with a time of 1 hour, 16 minutes and 22 seconds.  Second place was William Owen of Hopkinsville at 1 hour, 26 minutes and 46 seconds and in third was Brandon Dukes of Owensboro at 1 hour, 30 minutes and 7 seconds.

In the women’s division for the half-marathon, first place overall went to Erica Lovely of Clarksville with a time of 1 hour, 20 minutes and 26 seconds.  Second place was taken by Lisa Carlock of Clarksville with a time of 1 hour, 24 minutes and 46 seconds and third went to Ashley Evans of Hopkinsville, at 1 hour, 33 minutes and 6 seconds.

Many more prizes were handed out for multiple age divisions in both races.
