One of Elkton’s most recognizable faces is entering retirement as longtime Food Giant manager Brent Spurlin went to work at the grocery store for the final time Friday morning.
Spurlin has managed the store for the last 21 years and says his co-workers and customers are who he will miss the most.
He says he knew last year he wanted to retire after experiencing complications following a knee replacement surgery and he is at peace that now is the right time.
He says he’s happy to have more time to spend with his family, but it’s likely he’ll eventually find some type of work again in the future, even if it’s part-time.
Anyone wanting to wish Spurlin well in his retirement can go to the Elkton Food Giant on West Main Street until 3 p.m. Friday.
