A Crofton couple has been federally charged with multiple felonies alleging they stole over $600,000 from an elderly victim with dementia.
Court documents assert the incidents happened between 2013 and 2016 when Marvin Upton and Cynthia Upton of Crofton committed fraud to withdraw funds from the victim’s bank accounts and retirement assets.
The couple reportedly caused the victim to sign over power of attorney to them so that they could cash in the retirement assets.
They are charged with three counts of bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and three counts of filing a false return.
They could face up to 30 years in prison, if convicted.
