Robert Toombs was sworn in as the new chief of the Elkton Police Department during a ceremony Wednesday morning.
Toombs has spent the last eight years with the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and a decade before that as an officer with the Russellville Police Department.
His first day with Elkton is Thursday and the Todd County resident says he’s excited to get started.
Toombs says he’ll work to improve relationships with other law enforcement agencies in Todd County.
He spent four and a half years assigned to the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force during his time in Russellville and hopes to work close with the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force in Elkton.
Toombs was also a K9 officer for 14 years and would be open to Elkton having a police dog sometime in the future.
