The public, and especially those who utilize the Greenway System and other trail enthusiasts, are invited to attend a ground breaking on October 3 for the next phase of the expansion.
According to a news release, the $4.6 million project will add another 1.7 miles of trail to the existing Greenway, taking it from Pardue Lane to Foston Chapel Road near the Eagle Way Bypass. The project is also supported by grant funds in the amount of $716,000 from the Transportation Alternatives Program and an additional $100,000 from the Recreational Trails Program.
A partnership with Hopkinsville Surface and Stormwater Utility will also allow for the area known as ‘the pit’ off of Country Club Lane to be addressed by redesigning the existing detention basin. The keystone feature of the trail expansion is a pedestrian bridge to ensure the safety of trail-goers traversing one of the busiest intersections in town at Lafayette Road and Country Club Lane.
Mayor Carter Hendricks says, “We are excited to continue with the Hopkinsville Greenway. We know that 21st century cities are connected cities. This phase will help us continue to build a safer, happier, and healthier Hopkinsville.”
