HHS, CCHS bands were grand champion at weekend competitions

The Hopkinsville and Christian County High School bands brought home trophies again after competitions over the weekend.

The Band of Tigers, under the direction of Grant Jones, was grand champion at the Muhlenberg County Marching Classic. They also won best color guard, best percussion and first place in their class.

Hopkinsville additionally took home awards for best overall color guard, percussion, music and visual.

Meanwhile, the Colonel Band was grand champion at the Lakes Invitational in Dover, Tennessee and also won best overall color guard and best overall percussion.

Christian County High School Principal Chris Bentzel recently noted the growth and improvement in the Colonel Band program, giving credit to Director Anthony Darnall for teaching and recruiting in the elementary schools.

He says the hard work has been paying off with results.

Both local bands have won big at several competitions this year.
