School board approves working budget for 2019-20 school year

The Christian County School Board approved a working budget at Thursday’s meeting, the final time they will vote on a budget during this fiscal year.

The board have already heard a draft budget and approved a tentative budget and the working budget is the third time they must approve it, in accordance with the Kentucky Department of Education.  Director of Business Jessica Darnell says little has changed in the $94.1 million budget since it was approved as a tentative budget in May.

She says 36 percent of their revenues to make up the total budget comes from SEEK funding from the state, 23 percent is local taxes, 13 percent is carry forward money from the previous budget and 15 percent is from federal grants.

Five percent comes from state grants and small amounts are generated from student activities, fund transfer and sale of property.   In other action, the board recognized the Family Resource Youth Service Center Directors from each school that provide a vital service to children in the community and recognized Crofton Elementary School Student Lexi Hilton as Student of the Month.
